I am a nurse and have purchased an inexpensive one in the past, the actual professional vein finders are of course the best, but the inexpensive one did show/cast a darker shadow (vein). These were veins in the arm though, so Im not sure about smaller ones in the face. I never thought about it, I am going to give it a try.
