Digastric Muscle

Hi all. Has anyone injected toxin into the digastric muscle for a snatched under jawline? Iโ€™ve seen some instagrams of Med docs focusing on this area, along with the Mylohyoid muscle. Thanks!

Hi Andrealee! โค๏ธ This is a tricky area, if not done right. I have not done this myself. The digastric muscle is a small muscle located under the jaw that plays a role in opening the mouth and moving the hyoid bone (a bone in the neck). It's part of the group of muscles that contribute to the contour and support of the neck and jawline. Injecting botulinum toxin (e.g., Botox or similar) into the digastric muscle is an advanced aesthetic technique aimed at relaxing this muscle to improve the appearance of the jawline. Here's what it typically involves: To achieve a "snatched" jawline by relaxing the digastric muscle and potentially the mylohyoid muscle. This can create a sharper, more defined appearance by reducing muscle tension or bulk in the area. Combination Treatments: Often paired with other procedures, such as chin filler or masseter Botox, to balance the lower face and neck. Can also involve relaxing the platysma bands for a smoother neck appearance. This area is delicate, and improper injection could lead to complications such as difficulty swallowing (dysphagia) or impaired movement of the jaw. Requires expertise and advanced anatomical knowledge. Itโ€™s critical to see a licensed and experienced medical professional. The mylohyoid muscle is another muscle under the jaw that supports the floor of the mouth and assists in tongue and jaw movements. Injecting a toxin here...
